The Abel Visiting Scholar Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for developing-world researchers to visit a worldwide research colleague for a month on a fully financed basis. The Abel Visiting Scholarship Program for international scholars is supported by the Abel Prize in Mathematics and is administered by the International Mathematical Union’s Commission for Developing Countries. Scholars are given the opportunity to pursue their post-doctoral research in an international arena three times a year through this fully financed program because three scholarships are often available for up to a year. Competent scholars can apply three times in the same year to be considered for this fully funded opportunity for one month through the Abel Prize Scholars program.

The Abel Visiting Scholar Program has the following advantages:
- The stipend covers the applicant’s expenditures for one month, up to 4,400 EUR (5,000 USD). It includes the following:
- Travel expenses: The organization will pay for the applicant’s economy class flight from his or her place of employment to the host’s location.
- (Public) Transportation: The organization will cover the cost of rail or bus transportation from the airport to the candidate’s headquarters or host institution. Up to four taxi fares (with receipts) between home and the airport/railway station can be covered.
- Hotel Stay: If necessary, the grant can cover one night per arrival and departure.
- Visa and Travel Insurance Fees: The grant may pay visa and travel insurance fees.
- Basic Living payout: A daily payout based on living expenses. The daily amount will be lowered if meals are included in the accommodation.
- Accommodation: The award may be used to cover lodging expenditures in the host nation. A hotel stay (up to 4 weeks) is permitted if no guesthouse or rental flat is available. Longer stays necessitate obtaining an appropriate apartment or guesthouse.
Important: Keep all invoices for travel, visas, insurance, lodging, and taxi receipts. Send them to the CDC/IMU Secretariat via ordinary mail.
Note: If you travel during public holidays or when the host institution is closed, basic living expenses may not be paid, but lodging expenses may be.

Eligibility Abel Visiting Scholar Program 2024:
- At the time of application, the candidate must be based in a developing nation.
- At the time of application, the candidate must hold a PHD.
- The candidate must hold a post at a university or research institution.
- Candidates must not be full-time professionals, but must be on contract at any university or college.
- Candidates must be early professionals and no older than 35 years old at the time of application.
- Candidates with a broken career pattern may be granted up to three years of age relaxation. Candidates must, however, be able to present proof of a shattered career.

How Can I Apply for the Abel Visiting Scholar Program in 2024?
- Each candidate must apply online using the application portal.
- In their applications, candidates must clarify their research proposals.
- Candidates are invited to offer a list of researchers with whom they would like to work.
- Candidates must submit a declaration about their current job status or position at their home institution, which must be signed and stamped by the employer. The statement must be formatted correctly. The statement template is provided.
